Broadway World Preview of All the Great Books (abridged) on February 1, 2022

Katie Calahan plays the professor.

“First of all, the professor is not a professor. She has an AA degree in theatre from an online university. But you must call her professor, and she takes herself and the presentation of this material very seriously. Having not made it to the Great White Way, this is her opus. This is her shot to show the world what she can do. In this case, the world is some remedial high school students. Her challenge is getting the rest of the cast to care as much as she does about the theatrical presentation of this material, which they don’t,” she said. “The first thing I thought when I read this script is a book nerd wrote this play. I very much mean that as a compliment. I’m very excited. Not only are there classic literature jokes, but we brought in some more modern references like Harry Potter, so I was delighted because I am a reader – big time. I get to be Don Quixote, and as an actress who knows I will never be the man of La Mancha, this is a huge deal.”

A Well Deserved Win! on January 17, 2022

That’s right friends, that play I was so excited about last spring, it took Broadway World’s 2021 Regional Award for Best Play! It was so well deserved and I was/am elated to have been a part of Wendy House and originate the roll of Tommy. Well done to our cast, crew and playwright of this beautiful piece of theater.

Cast Announced! Full Article

The Best Bit:

The production, typically played by an all male ensemble, will feature three local, powerhouse actresses: Katie Calahan, Katie Huettel and Jessy Julianna. Rounding out this female power team and guiding this slapstick comedy is Brianna Larson, a Tampa Area Native and the Artistic Director of Theatre eXceptional.

Cripperella is back… on September 17, 2021

But not for long fans! Episode 5: Strange Ways to Pass the Time is here, but that means there’s only ONE episode left! Sad, but true…This project is coming to an end soon and what a journey! Much like Cripperella’s journey in the show it has had highs and lows. My deepest respect to professional video editors, I mean wowzers, I did NOT know what I was in for. I learned a lot about sound and lighting, why they don’t like animals on movie sets, why they scream about “losing the light” so much, how many people on social like my posts, but don’t watch the episodes (ah hem, you know who you are)….So, support this regional theater and me specifically and for a few bucks laugh it up!!

Vote For Me on August 29, 2021

I am nominated for Best Actress! Voting is open until Set 9th. You know what you need to do! VOTE

Seriously folks, I’ve been involved in a lot of projects I am proud of, but in recent years I have had two performance opportunities so great that I feel pity for anyone who couldn’t see them. One of those roles is the reason I’m on this list. To say I’m grateful to be recognized is an understatement the only thing better would be actually winning so go VOTE.

Reviews on the Fringe on August 5, 2021

Broadway World Review of Think Tank’s Can(‘t) Relate

“The plot is like The Breakfast Club set in a drama room: As Covid recedes to the (hopeful, very hopeful) past, three students will fail Drama class if they don’t come up with an original play that needs to be written and presented to their demanding but kind theatre teacher.”

“Katie Calahan–who is solid as the Theatre teacher who loves being there but is scared that “there” will no longer be “there” much longer. She’s a great listener onstage (a fine art in and of itself)…”

Like Busking, for Actors on June 7, 2021

I had the absolute pleasure of performing in St. Petersburg Shakespeare Festival’s Soliloquies Live event on Saturday. It was a delightful group of bad ass women performing famous male speeches in the park. People just wandering the path stopping to hear each speech. It was a blast. I was honored to request that “Friends, Romans, Citizens” lend me their ears. Fabulous evening, I hope these become a regular event.

ARTS4all Panal on June 2, 2021

This was an amazing panel with some talented disabled performers! I feel so privileged to have met these incredible bad-ass women! Keep crushing it, trained actors with real disabilities!

Creative Loafing review of The Wendy House

That’s right friends I am DELIGHTFUL. Seriously, I am rarely involved in a project where I feel that my role was written for me, the story is beautiful and speaks to me personally and that my input is not only tolerated, but valued. I have reached an age/point in my career where I can appreciate an exceptional experience WHILE its happening. Here I sit, happy and invested in the creative process and the play itself knowing how rare an opportunity this is. There have been a lot of shows I was proud of, but only two or three where I have felt sincere pity for those who miss seeing it and this is one of them. Do yourself a favor and come out or stream us!
